Following on from the success of our first Nina Simone release AMSC1268 (and still available folks), AVID are pleased to announce the release of our second set by the great lady. Here we have chosen the final three albums from her early career including her debut album “Little Girl Blue” featuring the classic song that went on to become a huge hit in 1987 “My Baby Just Cares For Me” plus the classic live set at the Village Gate featuring her extraordinary rendition of “The House Of The Rising Sun”. We complete the set with “Sings Ellington” Nina’s wonderful tribute to the great Duke Ellington and finally wrap it all up with eight bonus singles including the wonderful “I Want A Little Sugar In My Bowl”, “African Mailman” and the classic “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out”
The following is a quote from the notes from our first Nina Simone set… ‘Here is a fine artist whose background is
essentially classical, gospel and blues and yet on our selections she is undoubtedly singing in the jazz mode. A bit like Ray Charles, we thought, crosses many genres! So jazz it is. Here we feature four of Nina’s earliest albums in a mix of studio and live recordings. Her style at this early stage was certainly more in the jazz idiom, based on her gospel and blues background before she moved closer to soul and even pop later in her career’. Here's to The High Priestess Of Soul, Miss Nina Simone.
