Late Night Tales (Vinyl)
The release marks Late Night Talesâ first mix in over five years, and kicks off the seriesâ 25th anniversary year. This 20-track mix showcases Barryâs wider musical tastes and influences, fitting for both on and off the dancefloor. From house classics like Lance DeSardiâs âPower of Suggestionâ and Daniel Averyâs remix of Factory Floor, to the abstract grooves of Freddie Da Stupid or Ronald Langestraatâs leftfield reading of Boz Scaggsâ â70s smash âLowdownâ. Elsewhere, atmospheric and emotionally rich selections such as This Mortal Coilâs âThe Lacemakerâ and Magic Spirit Quartetâs delicately beautiful âAnnabiâ deepen the narrative arc of the compilation.
Barry also shares an exclusive reworking of Feltâs 1986 obscurity âFerdinand Magellanâ, alongside an edit of Superpitcherâs âYvesâ, nodding to the classic Late Night Tales tradition of bespoke reinterpretations. His own unreleased material appears too - âSometimes I Feel So Aloneâ, originally written for his debut album, and lead single âChala (My Soul Is On A Loop)â, released today on Ninja Tune / Late Night Tales. We also hear exclusive tracks from producer OâFlynn, one of Barryâs closest friends, and the closing track âUltrasound (Exclusive Spoken Word)â by poet and longtime collaborator Seamus, who features on Barryâs Loner album. Throughout, Barryâs eclectic tastes are woven into a seamless, expertly curated journey.
âI was absolutely buzzing when I got asked to do Late Night Tales. Over the moon,â Barry commented. âIt was such a significant thing for me. Itâs a series that works consistently with really great artists, so it felt like a massive privilege to even be considered to be among the kind of people that Late Night Tales typically works with.â
âI have this Spotify playlist thatâs called Barry Canât Curate. Iâd always put electronic music and different things in there that maybe I wouldnât get to play in DJ sets,â he continues. âLate Night Tales is in the same world really - another place where you can share the music you love, but not necessarily music youâd play on a dancefloor.â
